Tom and Melissa were moving to Brisbane for work. They knew what they wanted. They just couldn't be here to find it.
That's a common position for relocating buyers, and it's a hard one. The homes worth buying don't wait for you to book a flight.
The brief
Tom and Melissa are a young professional couple who were relocating from Cairns for work. They didn't want to pay a premium for a home someone else had already finished. They wanted something with good bones and good land that they could renovate and make their own.
Location mattered just as much. They had family living in the area, so being close to them was high on the list. They also wanted a family friendly, established suburb with green space nearby and the shops close by. In other words, somewhere they'd still want to live once the renovation was done.
Why The Gap
The Gap ticked every box. It put them close to family, which makes a big move a lot easier. It's leafy and established, with D'Aguilar National Park and plenty of parkland on its doorstep. The shops and cafes along Waterworks Road are close by for the everyday things. It's a suburb families move into and tend to stay in.
It's also close to the city. The Gap sits about 10 kilometres northwest of the Brisbane CBD by road, around a 20 to 25 minute drive depending on traffic, so getting into town for work is easy.
It also has a good supply of post war homes on generous blocks. For buyers who want to renovate, that's the stock worth chasing.
Being their eyes and ears
From Cairns, Tom and Melissa couldn't walk through homes on a Saturday morning. So we did it for them.
