Queensland Continues to Win the “State of Relocation” - What This Means for Property Buyers
If you have been wondering whether people are still relocating to Queensland, the answer is a resounding YES.
Recent migration figures confirm Queensland continues to lead Australia as the nation’s most popular destination for interstate relocation, with New South Wales accounting for the largest share of people making the move north.
The Sunshine Coast remains one of Australia’s most sought after regional locations, attracting around 8.8% of Australia’s net internal migration over the past 12 months. That’s an incredible achievement for our region and reinforces what many locals already know - people aren’t just chasing warmer weather; they’re seeking a better lifestyle, greater value and long-term opportunity.
Several factors continue to drive this trend:
- Queensland offers a more affordable housing market than Sydney.
- Strong employment and infrastructure investment continue to support confidence.
- Brisbane’s Olympic preparations are expected to create long-term economic benefits.
- The Sunshine Coast continues to offer an enviable balance of lifestyle, beaches, hinterland and community.
As a Buyer’s Agent, I’m also seeing this demand firsthand. While the market has become more balanced in some price brackets, well priced homes in desirable locations are still attracting strong competition - particularly from interstate buyers looking to secure a home before relocating.
For buyers, this creates both opportunities and challenges.
The opportunity lies in purchasing before further population growth places additional pressure on supply. The challenge is identifying genuine value, understanding local micro-markets and negotiating effectively in a competitive environment.
